Clinical Psychologist

Blue Tiger Psychology Group

I am a Senior Clinical Psychologist, and I have worked in the NHS for over 15 years.  During my Doctoral training at the University of Oxford, I started to develop an interest in working with symptoms seen after traumatic life experiences - for example, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Since I qualified in 2012, I have worked in a variety of teams in different settings, where people have been experiencing difficulties after certain events.  These events may have been in childhood, when they became an adult, or both.  I have worked with those affected by the terror attacks in London, Tunisia and Paris, when I was at the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (CADAT) at the Maudsley.  I have also worked in London prisons to deliver trauma informed interventions to those "At Risk" of developing mental health conditions, in the 18-24 age range, following difficult life events which they were trying to come to terms with, normally on their own.

I currently work in an NHS specialist trauma service, Op Courage, which supports Military Veterans who have had difficulty coming to terms with some of the things that have happened to them, during their time in service.  When working with Military Veterans I have heard from people who have trained to be elite, both within their role within the Military, but also those who played sport at high levels.  I have seen their internal strength, resilience and courage as they navigate injury, challenges to their performance, loss, and transitioning out of the elite environment; but sometimes past experiences can hijack how we manage things in the present.  It can be helpful to talk this through with someone; to make links to what factors might be impacting on how you are thinking and feeling emotionally in the present, and whether we can make any changes, to help you feel more emotionally prepared for the next event.

I work with a few different types of therapies, which can all complement one another. Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) which can help people emotionally process past events and allows us to have an updated view of how we see ourselves, others and the world. This can then help us navigate life going forwards.  Compassion-Focused Therapy helps us develop more awareness of the chatter in our mind, and the default to criticise ourselves, instead of coaching ourselves, particularly when things get hard.  Lastly Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, which can help us see the link between our thoughts, feelings and subsequent behaviours, and how we can use that to our advantage.  I would take time to talk through the options with you, to ensure we design a treatment package that suits your needs.

In my own life I have needed tiger energy, to get myself through my own difficult experiences, including unexpected loss.  I have seen how the body tries to heal itself, but also how our mind can hijack natural processes. This has highlighted the importance of the mind-body connection to me, and how the body holds much more power than we think. If we can learn how to calm and care for our body, our mind will also start to settle. To find calm I love to go sea swimming, play tennis or walks out in nature.

If you would like to work together, or you would like to discuss any of the above further, please do get in touch hello@wearebluetiger.co.uk. I look forward to hearing from you.
