Health Psychologist

Blue Tiger Psychology Group

Hello! I'm Alison, a Health Psychologist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I feel my most tiger when I’m out in the hills where I love to run and walk. Striding up the hills, my lungs pumping air, my legs firing, I feel my strongest and most alive (especially if it’s accompanied by the fierce Scottish weather!). Being in the hills, I also feel my most connected to the world in that magic way that washes away all the noise that life can throw at us, just leaving me in the present moment, senses and body alive! Sport has always been a big part of my life; for me, that looks like running (particularly ultramarathons) or any activity that gets me outside, during which I’m usually accompanied by my dog is tiger like in appearance (and sometimes in his disposition!).

When I’m not a hill tiger, I’m a qualified Health Psychologist, which means I’ve got a special interest and training in the psychological aspects of physical health. This includes exploring about how people stay well and do the things that matter the most to them, how people respond and cope when they become unwell or experience ongoing physical symptoms, and how healthcare systems are structured in a way that affects these two areas.  I’ve applied these skills in a range of mental health and physical health settings within the NHS, and more recently began working in independent practice alongside my NHS role in 2023.

I really enjoy working within the interplay between our minds and bodies. This often leads me to working with people who are experiencing changes in their bodies such as long term health conditions, physical symptoms that don't seem to go away or injuries, and whose minds that are having an impact on their life and how they feel about themselves and others, such as anxiety, low mood and difficult experiences. I’m also really drawn to working with people who are very driven, and people who notice they can be critical of themselves. I work flexibly and creatively, blending my approach so it fits what you’d like to learn and take away. These interests led me to start working with athletes and those involved with professional sports, where I have enjoyed getting to know the intricacies of the industry, and helping people to flourish both within their sporting lives, and outwith the pitch/pool/track.

My fee for self-funding clients is £100/55 mins, and I also accept clients with sessions funded by AXA. If I’m not registered with an insurance company that supports you, I’m happy to look into this.

My main availability is on Fridays (8-5pm) and I also have limited availability on weekday evenings between 5 – 8pm. I usually see clients online, and happy to discuss arranging person sessions in Edinburgh. Please contact
